University High School Took Top Honors at PhysicsBowl 2006

University High School of Irvine placed first in Division I PhysicsBowl 2006 competition. Torrey Pines High School placed first in Division II, Region 14. The competitions were held between April 3 - 14, 2006 at participating schools.

PhysicsBowl 2006 is sponsored by the American Association of Physics Teachers, Frey Scientific and Texas Instruments to generate interest in physics and to recognize outstanding high school physics students and their teachers.  The competition is held in 15 regions, each with two divisions.  Division I is for students in a first-year physics course; Division II is for students in an advanced or second-year physics course.  A school's score in each division is the sum of the four highest student scores in that division.  California is in the single state Region 14.

University High School of Irvine is the top school among all divisions.

  • 2nd Place - The Harker School, San Jose, CA

  • 1st Place - Tung Henry, Torrey Pines High School, Encinitas, CA
  • 2nd Place - Aalipour Yasin, Torrey Pines High School, Encinitas, CA
