Top Students from California Are Recognized for Academic Excellence

Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth held its 2007 Academic Talent Search Awards Ceremony at California State Politechnic University Pomona in early June, 2007 for Southern California elementary and middle school students who distinguished themselves through special testing as among the most academically gifted young students in the country.

Over 84,000 students from 19 states and the District of Columbia participated in the Talent Searches offered through CTY.  The following Avid Academy students were among the state winners:

  • Patrick Angelo, 2nd Place, Quantitative, Grade 5, The Pegasus School
  • Staphany Hou, 2nd Place, Quantitative, Grade 5, Santiago Hills Elementary School
  • Brian E. Wagner, 2nd Place, Quatitative, Grade 5, Harbor Day School
  • Jonathan Li, 1st Place, SAT Math, Grade 8, St. Margaret's Episcopal School
  • Alexander D. Pusey, 2nd Place, SAT Math, Grade 8, St. Margaret's Episcopal School
  • Stephanie M. Cheng, 2nd Place, SAT Math and Critical Reading Combined, Grade 8, Niguel Hills Middle School

In total, 43% of our 7th and 8th grade students received SAT/ACT State Awards for High Honors.  We congratulate the students and parents who make academics a first priority and teachers who inspire their students to achieve their best, create engaged young people who are well-prepared to lead and shape tomorrow's world.
