12 Students in Southern California Qualified for USAMO

American Mathematics Society announced names of the 374 students who qualified to take USA Math Olympiad (USAMO) exam. A total of 39 students are from California. Among them are 12 students from Southern California.

AMC announced the 2006 USAMO qualifiers.  12 students are from Southern California.  Jung Hun Koh, a 7th grader from South Pasadena Middle School, is one of the youngest qualifiers in the nation.  Tedrick Leung, an 11th grader from North Hollywood High School, is one of the only 4 students received perfect score on AIME.  Nationally, there are a total of 374 qualifiers from 231 schools.  Among them, 39 are from California.

The USAMO index cutoff for participants was 217.5.  In addition, 120 students in grades 7th through 10th achieving an AIME score of 8 or above, with an USAMO index score of 212 were also selected to write the USAMO on April 18 & 19, 2006.
