Jeffrey Qiao won Orange County Chapter MATHCOUNTS
2011 Orange County chapter MATHCOUNTS competition was held on February 12 at UCI. About 160 students participated in this event. For the first time in 27 years of OC MATHCOUNTS history, two students from the same school wrote a perfect paper. Jeffrey Qiao, a 7th grade and B.J. Kim, an 8th grade, both students of Avid Academy, both aced the exam. Jeffrey won the first place trophy after an add-on intense tie-breaker contest. Avid students has done well this year with 8 students finished in the top 12.

The countdown winner is Michelle Chen of Venado Middle School. The top 5 teams and 12 individuals all advanced to State competition on March 19 at UCI. Congratulations to all mathletes for their outstanding performance.
