2011 Jump Start Precalculus and AMC 12 Bootcamp (Grades 10 - 11)

Date and Time: 5:30 - 8:30 PM, Monday - Friday, July 25 - August 5, 2011.

Registration

To register, click on 2011 Jump Start Precalculus and AMC 12 Bootcamp Online Registration or download the 2011 Math Olympiad Summer Camp Registration Form.  Registration deadline is June 15, 2010 on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Who

The Jump Start Pre-Calculus and AMC 12 program is designed for students who will be taking AMC 10 or AMC 12 exam during the 2011 - 2012 academic year.  It focuses on trigonometry and AMC 12 problem solving techniques.  To qualify, you must either be an Avid Academy student in good standing or meet the following minimum qualification:

  • A in Honors Algebra II or
  • A in Honors Precalculus

Our camp is limited to 25 students per session.  To receive personalized attention, you will be placed into small groups according to problem solving experience.  If you are bright and talented, eager to explore advanced math topics, and motivated to solve challenging problems, come join other gifted students to make this summer enjoyable and meaningful.

What

Curriculum

The bootcamp will focus on the following precalculus topics

  • Trigonometry of right angles
  • Trigonometry identities
  • Complex numbers and complex plane
  • Polar coordinates
  • Conic functions
  • Parametric functions
  • Sequences and series
  • Infinite sums and products

Mock Competitions

Students will practice problems selected from mainstream math contests and standardized exams such as:

  • AMC 10
  • California Math League High School Contest
  • ARML (American Regional Math League)
  • PSAT, SAT I, SAT II

Homework

Students will be giving homework assignments every day to be completed before the next day of Camp.  An optional homework period from 3:30 - 4:30 PM will be available when students will be working with our teaching assistants in homework assignments.

Where

The camp will be held at room GH126, Concordia University.  The parking is FREE.  Ask the university guard to request a parking pass and directions to the classroom.
