2011 Geometry and MATHCOUNTS Bootcamp (Grades 7 - 8)

Registration

To register, click on 2011 Geometry and MATHCOUNTS Bootcamp Online Registration or download the 2011 Math Olympiad Summer Camp Registration Form.  Registration deadline is June 15, 2011 on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Who

This camp is designed for students who will study geometry in the coming school year.  It is also designed for students who would like to practice MATHCOUNTS intensively to make their school MATHCOUNTS teams.

Our camp is limited to 25 students per session.  To receive personalized attention, you will be placed into small groups according to problem solving experience.  If you are bright and talented, eager to explore advanced math topics, and motivated to solve challenging problems, come join other gifted students to make this summer enjoyable and meaningful.

What

Curriculum

This camp will provide students with an overview of following geometric topics:

  • Angle chasing
  • Polygons
  • Areas and perimeters
  • Volume and surface area
  • Similar triangles
  • Congruent triangles
  • Pythagorean theorem
  • Motion geometry
  • Spheres, cones, and pyramids

You will also learn the problem solving strategies and techniques related to the following MATHCOUNTS topics:

  • Algebraic expressions and shortcuts
  • Algebra manipulations and tricks
  • Number sense
  • Number theory
  • Proportional reasoning
  • Statistics
  • Patterns, sequences and series
  • Counting techniques
  • Probability techniques

Mock Competitions

Homework

Students will be giving homework assignments every day to be completed before the next day of Camp.  An optional homework period from 3:30 - 4:30 PM will be available when students will be working with our teaching assistants in homework assignments.

Where

The camp will be held at room GH126, Concordia University.  The parking is FREE.  Ask the university guard to request a parking pass and directions to the classroom.
