Who Should Attend?

Our camp is limited to 25 students in grades 7-8 per session.  To receive personalized attention, you will be placed into small groups according to problem solving experience.  If you are bright and talented, eager to explore advanced math topics, and motivated to solve challenging problems, come join other gifted students to make this summer enjoyable and meaningful.

What Will You Learn?

In this middle school problem solving camp, we teach advanced topics in probability, number theory, algebra and geometry.  You will improve accuracy and speed to solve problems in four different settings:

  • Countdown – solve problems mentally.
  • Sprint – solve problems in less than 1 minute each without using a calculator.
  • Target – solve complex problems in 3 minutes each using a calculator.
  • Team – solve difficult problems with a team of four students.

 Sample Math Problems:

  1. A point E is chosen at random from within square ABCD.  Express as a decimal to the nearest hundredth the probability that triangle ABE is obtuse.
  2. Jan is thinking of a positive integer.  Her integer has exactly 16 positive factors, two of which are 12 and 15.  What is Jan’s number?
  3. Two circles and three straight lines lie in the same plane.  If neither the circles nor the lines are coincident, what is the maximum possible number of points of intersection?

Students will practice problems selected from mainstream math contests and standardized exams such as:
