National and State Math Competitions Available at Avid Academy

Avid Academy for Gifted Youth recommends the following national and state math competitions for the 2007-2008 school year.  If a student's school does not participate in any of the following math competitions, he or she can participate as an individual through Avid Academy and take the tests at Avid Academy test sites.

Fermat Division (Grades 4 - 5)

  • Math Olympiad Division E (5 monthly contests, October, 2007 – February, 2008)
  • California Math League (April 15, 2008)

Euler Division (Grades 6 - 8)

Grade 6:

  • Math Olympiad Division E (5 monthly contests, October, 2007 – February, 2008)
  • MATHCOUNTS Orange County Chapter (Qualifying Exam Required.  February 11, 2008 at University of California, Irvine)
  • California Math League (April 19, 2008)

Grade 7: 

  • AMC 8
  • Math Olympiad Division M (5 monthly contests, October, 2007 – February, 2008)
  • Rocket City Math League (3 monthly contests, October 2007 - March 2008)
  • MATHCOUNTS Orange County Chapter (Qualifying Exam Required.  February 11, 2008 at University of California, Irvine)
  • California Math League (April 19, 2008)

Grade 8:

  • AMC 8 (November 13, 2007)
  • Math Olympiad Division M (5 monthly contests, October, 2007 – February, 2008)
  • Rocket City Math League (3 monthly contests, October 2007 - March 2008)
  • MATHCOUNTS Orange County Chapter (Qualifying Exam Required.  February 12, 2007 at University of California, Irvine)
  • California Math League (Optional, April 17, 2007)
  • AMC 10 (Coach Recommendation Only, February 7, 2008)

Gauss Division (Grades 9 - 11)

  • AMC 10 (February 7, 2008)
  • AMC 12 (February 7, 2008)
  • AIME (Need 120 out of 150 on AMC 10 or 100 out of 150 on AMC 12 to qualify, March 13, 2007) 
  • Rocket City Math League (3 monthly contests, October 2007 - March 2008)
  • California Math League (6 monthly contests, October 2007 - May 2008)
